This project was completed for the Waterbury Historical Society and entailed taking 5 existing display cabinets and putting them on platforms. Four of the display cabinets were selected to be on movable platforms and mulled together by an archival cabinet in the middle fabricated by BKCW. This archival cabinet has a door on each side that was custom fabricated and stained to match the existing display cabinet. As with all historical buildings, this floor is not level or straight, so careful consideration had to be taken into the design to accommodate these variations. There are 8 levelers around the perimeter of the platform to raise the platform from the casters and level the platform so the display cabinet doors can function properly. The 5th cabinet is on a fixed platform and the pictures below show how far out of level the floors are and how I had to account for this in my design and installation. I also installed new locks on all the display cabinets to acquire a uniform look and gave them a fresh look by buffing them with a special oil/wax finish. Thank you Waterbury Historical Society for this fun and challenging project.
